Passionate and creative music-making has won her universal critical acclaim from both press and audience members. Reviewers find her performances marked by “passages of ghostly beauty played with transparent grace” (Santa Barbara Independent), and that “she plays with a beautiful sense of line and shape” (Journal of the International Double Reed) and a “big colorful sound that she uses to make clear-headed, decisive statements” (Milwaukee Journal Sentinal). Andrea’s recent concert engagements have included solo and chamber music performances at the Rimsky-Korsakov National Conservatory (St. Petersburg, Russia), National Museum for Women in Arts (Washington D.C.), Wuhan Conservatory of Music (Wuhan, China), Banff Centre for the Arts, and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as well as on numerous concert series throughout the Midwest. Her first solo CD, The Poetic Oboe, was released by Crystal Records in 2004. The reviewer for Fanfare describes her playing as “...some of the finest I have heard. Her tone is pure, focused, and unforced--perfectly natural sounding and effortless.” Dr. Gullickson’s newest CD, Down A River of Time, (Cala label) is a collection of oboe concertos recorded with the Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. Music critic Jonathan Woolf (MusicWeb International) cites her as “highly accomplished” and declares “…she weaves her patterns over contemporary and baroque with equal pleasure.” Andrea Gullickson is the Chair of the Department of Music at Butler University.
